Septic System Maintenance Tips
Consistently maintaining your septic system is one of the best ways to avoid larger-scale problems in the future and keep money in your pocket. The experienced team at Gibson Septic Services recommends the following maintenance procedures:
- Don’t put heavy objects on the ground above your tank or drain field, as it could damage the tank and pipes. Things such as sheds, cars, RVs, above ground pools and more should be placed in other locations of your yard.
- Don’t dispose of non-biodegradable materials or chemicals by pouring them down the drain or flushing them in the toilet. Doing so will lead to a clogged tank and will kill the bacteria in the tank that breaks down solid materials. Items such as dental floss, feminine hygiene products, diapers, cigarette butts, household cleaning products, bleach etc. should never be poured down the drain or flushed in the toilet.
- Make sure to use your garbage disposal sparingly, as it has the potential to clog the drain field.
